Barbara Laborde Organic Certification Scholarship

🌱 Baystate Organic Certifiers is thrilled to announce the winner of our 1st annual Barbara Laborde Organic Certification Scholarship: Pea Shoot Farm! 🌱

This scholarship was created to honor Barbara’s legacy of supporting farmers and expanding access to organic certification, and this year’s recipient truly embodies that spirit.

In their application, Pea Shoot Farm shared a powerful story about what first inspired their journey into farming by learning from a neighbor who grew food, not just for herself, but for her entire community. That early experience sparked their lifelong commitment to agriculture that was rooted in care, connection, and stewardship. After working for years on other organic farms, and guided by their belief that how we farm truly matters, they finally took the leap to start out on their own. Their work reflects a deep commitment to building soil health, supporting local ecosystems, and strengthening their community through good food.

Pea Shoot Farm encapsulated this inspiration saying: “I farm because I believe that sustainable agriculture can help address climate change, can strengthen local economies, and can bring communities together.”

We are proud to support Pea Shoot Farm in their pursuit of organic certification and continue the good work of feeding their community and caring for the planet.

Congratulations!

The Barbara Laborde Organic Certification Scholarship is an annual opportunity to support small farms in their journey toward organic certification. Barbara Laborde was one of the founding members of BOC, and Baystate wishes to honor the work she has done for organic certification with our scholarship program.
